Local support for the Ukrainian Refugee Crisis

You may or may not be aware that as a result of the Government scheme to host Ukrainian refugees, there are currently eight families in Burbage who have offered accommodation.

It became obvious at the start that most of prospective hosts were unaware of each other. But following a post on the Burbage Notice Board Facebook page, the Burbage Ukraine Network (BUN) was created - a support network currently consisting of the host families.

The support starts at the pre-arrival stage (matching , visas etc) , goes through the arrival stage (transport, money, doctors etc) and onto the post-arrival stage (joining in the community , finding work, etc).

Matching hosts with refugees is taking time. There are, however, two groups matched and good progress being made with the application process. It’s hoped that some refugees will arrive in the village in the near future.

If you or someone you know in the village has put themselves forward as host and would like to join the network please get in touch with Tony Walker.
